The AS5048 is an easy-to-use 360° angle position sensor with a 14-bit high-resolution output. The system accuracy can reach up to 0.05° (when linearization and averaging are calculated by an external microcontroller). The sensor IC consists of a Hall sensor, an analog-to-digital converter, and a digital signal processor, capable of measuring the absolute position of a magnet's rotational angle. The zero position can be programmed via SPI or I²C commands without the need for a programmer. Since the magnet's zero position does not require mechanical calibration, the assembly of the entire system is simplified, helping developers reduce development time. The AS5048 is immune to magnetic misalignment, air gap variations, temperature changes, and external magnetic field interference.
The AS5048's robustness and wide operating temperature range (-40°C to 150°C) make it an ideal choice for rotational angle sensing in harsh industrial and medical environments. Some AS5048 ICs can be daisy-chained for serial data reading. The absolute position information of the magnet can be directly obtained via PWM output and simultaneously read through standard SPI or high-speed I²C interfaces. The AS5048A is equipped with SPI and PWM interfaces, while the AS5048B features an I²C interface and PWM output. The AS5048's built-in voltage regulator allows it to operate at either 3.3V or 5V.
